How our prices work

Where prices come from

Each Irish supermarket (Tesco, Dunnes, SuperValu, Lidl, Aldi) has its own catalogue of products in our database: name, pack size, pack price, and whether it's available to order online. Most stores are refreshed by fetching their own site on a weekly schedule, where the store allows it. For anything not fetched that week, we fall back to a frozen baseline snapshot from an earlier check. Every product carries a record of which one it is, and every basket total is labelled accordingly (see below), so you always know what you're looking at.

What the freshness labels mean

Each store's basket gets one of three labels, based on how many of its items this week's fetch covered.

Pack-aware costing

We don't divide a recipe's exact grams across meals and call that the cost. That's not how shopping works. Instead we add up everything every meal in your week needs, then work out how many whole packs of each product you'd actually have to buy (rounding up), and price the whole basket at one store. That full-basket total is the number that matters, because it's the number that would actually leave your account.

Every total on this site is a planning estimate built from the catalogue described above. It is not a live checkout price, a loyalty-card price, or a guarantee of availability. Prices, stock, and promotions change constantly. Always check the shelf or the till before you commit to a budget.
